Local Lib Dem Councillor Sarah Osborne is making a name for herself as a rural champion as she leads the fight against the Conservative County Council's decision to endanger local school children by scrapping the school bus service in East Chiltington.
Sarah Osborne is now to meet Tim Loughton MP Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Children and Families with local Lib Dem MP Norman Baker. Sarah Osborne is taking the local campaign to parliament to raise local concerns about the assessments of walking routes to school.
Sarah said "The Conservative Council has left us with little choice but go beyond them to get action taken to protect our local children. It's unacceptable to force children to walk down unlit country roads with blind bends and speeding traffic. Many parents are preparing to make personal sacrifices to ensure their children continue to have a safe journey to school, if nothing is done.
"Parents have repeatedly approached the Tory-run council, but they don't seem to want to listen. I'm fighting to change the guidelines to ensure that not only are local children not being forced to walk dangerous routes, but to ensure children across the country are supported as well."
Sarah Osborne's campaign hit national attention after she attracted community leaders, teacher unions and national children's charities to her cause. Many local residents remain concerned over the safety risks for their children and feel let down by their Conservative Councillors.
