Lib Dem green energy boost for Barcombe Energy Group and OVESCO welcomed by Local MP

OVESCO and Barcombe Energy Group have been provided with nearly £85,000 of the government's first allocation of money from the Local Energy Assessment Fund, according to figures provided to the local MP, Norman Baker, who has welcomed the financial boost to local energy efficiency projects.

The LEAF money was announced by the Lib Dem Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Chris Huhne MP, which is available to communities in England and Wales who are playing an active role in the development of a low carbon society, with money available to finance projects that increase understanding and uptake of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies.

Norman says: "I am very committed to green energy and lobbied for funds to be sent to this area. This announcement is therefore a much welcomed boost to support the excellent work undertaken by OVESCO and Barcombe Energy Group, and I look forward to seeing how they intend to use the money to help promote a local low carbon society, as both groups have always been forward thinking on renewables and energy efficiency."

The money will help to pave the way for the government's Green Deal and help prepare for new opportunities that will arise from it. The Green Deal is a scheme to encourage energy efficiency improvements paid for by savings from energy bills, avoiding upfront costs to households, private landlords and, also, businesses. It will radically overhaul energy efficiency across the UK, reducing carbon emissions and creating up to 100 000 jobs.

Norman says: "The £1billion Green Deal was in the Lib Dem manifesto and is a once in a generation opportunity to make our homes energy efficient. Saving energy reduces carbon emissions and also the cost of heating our homes.

"We are in austere times, but the LEAF and the Green Deal are just two examples of the work that the Lib Dems are doing in government to ensure that our commitment to being the greenest government ever is achieved."
