Nadine Stothard for Wivelsfield
Nadine
Nadine Stothard is the Liberal Democrat Candidate for the Wivelsfield by election on October 10th.
Nadine lives in Wivelsfield Green village with her three daughters and husband. Nadine has worked in the public relations industry as well as co chairing the PTA at her children's school and serving as an active member of the organising committee for her local Residents Association.
Her experience has made Nadine a great organiser and someone who can put the work in, communicate effectively and get things done. She now wants to use her skills to advocate for the interests of her fellow residents.
Fighting for our community's needs
Nadine believes our planning system should be community led rather than stacked in favour of the big developers.
The previous Conservative Government changed the rules and said the Lewes District Local Plan (which would have opposed inappropriate development) was "out of date".
That meant the Planning Inspector over-ruled the wishes of the local community and the District Council - and pushed through sites such as South Road in Wivelsfield Green. "Wivelsfield and the surrounding area has already taken more than its fair share of new development", Nadine said.
"We need a planning process that respects the rural nature of our area. As District Councillor, I will speak up for local needs to be met on affordable and social housing. I will oppose inappropriate development and push for any new housing to include support for vital services like schools, transport and GP surgeries".
The Conservatives suffered a major defeat in the general election as people grew tired of their poor record in our communities, but the consequences of their time in power remain.
Examples of the Conservative legacy in our villages include
• Patients being sent to other towns for GP appointments after years of NHS strain.
• Our excellent Primary School, with triple form entry, struggling to meet our growing community's needs.
• They changed the rules, causing the Lewes Local Plan to lapse, leading to hundreds of new homes.
• Our roads are congested and riddled with potholes, a result of increased traffic. Which is managed by the Conservative run East Sussex Council.
Nadine Stothard says, “We need representatives who will stand up for our area and make our voices heard. I can't promise to fix everything, but I can promise to be a strong, honest voice for our rural community.”
The Liberal Democrats, now the joint largest party on Lewes District Council, are committed to being practical, placing compassionate, effective solutions at the heart of efforts to improve public services and infrastructure.
