Road narrowing plan dangerous, say Plumpton residents

Councillor Sarah Osborne and residents hand their petition to the chair of East Sussex County Council in front of an ornately carved honours list.

Petitioners in Plumpton are appealing to East Sussex County Council to scrap the planned single carriageway on Station Road Plumpton Green at the entrance to the Nolands development. It will make living in Plumpton dangerous say residents, particularly on race days when the amount of traffic going through Plumpton increases dramatically.

Cllr Sarah Osborne explains: “Station Road is the main road through the village. Residents are rightly concerned that there will be nowhere close for emergency vehicles or delivery vans to stop, especially the oil delivery lorries who need to connect the hose to the tanks in peoples back gardens. In addition, there will be an impact on the village shop which is close to where the County Council plan to narrow the road.”

Plumpton resident Sandie Jackson, who organised the petition to take to the County Council adds: “We are urging the County Council to re-think this decision which will have a serious impact on safety and on the day to day lives of all of us who live in the village.”
