Parents of children living in Seaford who would expect to attend Seaford Head Academy have been critical about the way in which the Academy has carried out a consultation on their new admissions policy.

Cllr James MacCleary, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Newhaven and Bishopstone explains: “It appears that the consultation has not been widely publicised among parents and the feeder primary schools in Seaford.  Cllr Carolyn Lambert and I have been contacted by a number of parents who fear that their children may not now get places at the Academy but that children from other areas may be allowed to attend.  This clearly shows how the Conservative government’s academisation policy does not work in favour of local residents.  The Conservatives have handed over control of children’s education to unaccountable bodies who can pick and choose who can attend pushing out local pupils.”

Cllr Carolyn Lambert, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Seaford South, adds: “Cllr MacCleary and I have written to the Head of the Academy expressing our concern and asking the Academy to clarify how the consultation was carried out and over what period of time.

"It is shocking that Seaford pupils may be forced to travel outside the area and I very much hope that the Academy will listen to the concerns of parents.”
