James MacCleary demands answers on Seaford health funding
Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Seaford, James MacCleary, has called on Conservative MP Maria Caulfield to come clean on her repeated claims that funding has been secured for a new health hub in the town.
Seaford is in dire need of new facilities for its GP surgeries and Maria Caulfield has been promising action for years with no results.
James MacCleary and the Seaford Lib Dem team have called on the MP to back their proposal to redevelop the existing Seaford Medical Practice site on Dane Road. The local District Council have offered to give the adjacent Richmond Road car park to support the development.
Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Seaford, James MacCleary, says: "What Seaford needs is action, not more empty promises from our MP in an election year. We all remember that she also promised us a brand new hospital in Eastbourne before the last election which has never materialised.
"She needs to come clean with us about this funding she claims has been secured for a new health hub in the town. In recent months I have been in touch with both of the town's GP surgeries, the local NHS and our local councils and none of them are aware of any new funding.
"Maria Caulfield must tell us now how much funding there is and where it's coming from. Why is she hiding this information from key health partners and, most importantly, local residents?"
Local County Councillor, Carolyn Lambert, adds: "Maria Caulfield is not just the local MP but also a government health minister. Time and again she has made big promises on local health facilities and then made excuses or pointed fingers at others when it hasn't happened.
"We've had enough. Residents deserve better than evidence-free pledges from Maria Caulfield that never actually happen. We will continue to engage directly with the NHS and local authorities to explore our proposal to redevelop the Dane Road site."
