You’ll work closely with our MP, councillors, and volunteers to plan and deliver local campaigns, expand our volunteer base, and grow our digital reach. This is a hands-on role that offers variety, challenge, and the opportunity to make a real impact in liberal politics.

Job Title: Lewes and Wealden Constituency Liberal Democrats Campaigns Organiser
Salary range: £24,000-£27,000 + pension contribution
Workplace: While some work can be carried out from home, the Campaigns Organiser needs to be available in the constituencies when needed. Lewes Constituency Liberal Democrats have an office where some work will have to be carried out.
Hours: The post is full-time (37 hours/week). Some hours will be unsocial. It is expected that the Campaigns Organiser will work to assist evening and weekend campaign activities by agreement. It is expected that three days a week will be spent on Lewes activities and two days on Wealden.
Accountable to: The Liberal Democrat Lewes Local Party Executive; the Liberal Democrat Wealden Local Party Executive via a service level agreement. Day to day management is by Lewes’s Senior Campaign Organiser.
Transport: Travel expenses will be paid for pre-agreed expenditure.
Context: The role is working to promote the Liberal Democrats in Lewes and Wealden Districts. This will involve co-ordinating with key local volunteers, the office of James MacCleary MP, the Liberal Democrat's federal and regional party and local council groups. Priorities will be set alongside the existing campaign organiser and the local executive.
The major functions of the job are:
To support the work of the Liberal Democrats in Lewes and Wealden constituencies so that:
· the local party’s membership and volunteer base grows and thrives ;
· an increased number of Liberal Democrats are elected to East Sussex County Council in 2025;
· the local parties’ capacity to fight elections is increased including planning towards the 2027 district elections;
· we maintain our majority at the next Parliamentary election.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:i
1. To assist the Campaign Committee in strategic planning and campaign organisation
2. To organise volunteers and local party workers to deliver the campaign plan, by
3.a recruiting, training, managing and mobilising volunteers
3.b leading volunteer teams on campaigning activities (doorstep, online, telephone and delivery)
4. To ensure the delivery of a programme of doorstep and telephone voter contact
5. To oversee and contribute to the production of literature as per the local party literature plan, both local and constituency wide
6. To build and develop digital campaigning capacity alongside key volunteers
7. To organise volunteers to enter data in the online database, taking into consideration confidentiality and data retention rules. The organiser may also be required to enter data in the absence of such volunteers
8. To line manage any supporting staff and interns
9. To liaise, if appropriate, with staff and officers of the regional party (South East of England) and to liaise with the local council groups
10. To assist the fundraising group to a limited extent, as allowed by other duties
11. To undertake such training as is recommended to develop and update required skills
12. To undertake such other duties as the line manager may require furthering effective communication, campaigning and organisation in the area.
In addition the Campaigns Organiser will comply with general duties, including:
· Adhere to all health and safety and fire regulations and cooperate with the local party to maintain good standards of health and safety;
· Uphold ethical and professional standards and not behave in a manner that is likely to bring the party into disrepute;
· Promote and sustain a responsible attitude towards equal opportunities and diversity within the party; and
· Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning and development and participate in training relevant to the role.
Person specification
Essential
- Ability to communicate effectively with and maintain the confidence of a wide variety of stakeholders.
- Track record of recruiting, mobilising and managing volunteers effectively.
- Demonstrates a "can-do" attitude and resilience in pressured/difficult situations.
- Understanding and experience of election campaigns and management.
- Ability to motivate and manage a team of people and work effectively as a team member
- Ability to work unsupervised and effectively prioritise from a wide variety of tasks.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to delegate effectively.
- Sympathetic to Liberal Democrat aims and/or values
Desirable
- Knowledge of the local area, its politics and local communities.
- Ability to produce effective political literature.
- Good digital skills and willingness to learn new software/apps and media: social media, ability to update web sites, ability to use a variety of specialised software e.g. desktop publishing, video subtitling.
- Ability to spot issues with campaigning potential.
- Ability to work with the local media and generate positive coverage for the party and its representatives.
- Possession of driving licence and access to a vehicle.
